DeepRoots Launches Tool to Help Farmers Access Agroforestry Planning Grants

The DeepRoots agroforestry platform streamlines the process of designing your agroforestry system and generating the documentation required to access government funding

London, UK — DeepRoots has launched a new farmer-focused service designed to simplify access to agroforestry planning grants and help farmers explore how trees can strengthen the long-term resilience and profitability of their land.

Our service streamlines access to the Forestry Commission PA4 Agroforestry Plan grant, enabling farmers to generate a professional agroforestry plan while reducing the administrative burden typically associated with the application process. We have worked closely with the Forestry Commission in the development of this service.

Agroforestry, the integration of trees with crops or livestock is increasingly recognised as a powerful way to improve soil health, biodiversity, and farm productivity while generating long-term carbon and environmental benefits.

Despite growing interest, adoption has been slow due to the complexity of planning agroforestry systems and accessing available funding.

DeepRoots aims to solve this challenge by providing farmers with:

  • site-specific agroforestry system design

  • support navigating the grant process

  • practical guidance for implementing tree planting.

  • Further access to funding opportunities

By simplifying the planning stage, we enable farmers to assess whether agroforestry is a good fit for their farm before committing to implementation.

The initiative also creates opportunities for food companies, water utilities, and government programmes to support regenerative land transitions across farm networks by helping farmers access planning support at scale.

"As an arable farmer in the east of England, I am interested in the opportunity an agroforestry system can bring to my farm, but this is a new enterprise and skill for me, I need support with knowledge and funding to make it happen on my farm, this is where deeproots has been a great help, making access to grants simple and helping me develop the business case for trees on farm." Thomas Gent - Gentle Farming

Farmers are increasingly interested in how trees can improve resilience and diversify income,” said Joss Rogers, Co-Founder and CEO of DeepRoots. “However, designing systems that work for each farm requires specialised knowledge. Our goal is to make that expertise accessible and scalable.”
